Gearing up for Cowboy Tough!

A mere 63 days from now you’ll be heading out in the wilds of Wyoming for year 4 of Cameco Cowboy Tough! The race is sold out, with 110 amazing adventure racers on the roster. We also have a quite a few teams on the waitlist, so if you have any changes to your roster or availability, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can allow additional teams to join in the fun. For this year’s Cameco Cowboy Tough you will be exploring the eastern portion of the state and taking on an extensive paddle section on both flowing and flat water, great gravel grinding and single track riding, elevations just over 10,000’ and remote trekking sections through some beautiful and varied terrain—all served up the way only Wyoming can.

Soon we will order custom team bibs, sized to your requested shirt size. Your team name will be printed on them exactly as shown on the race roster located here. If there are any changes, please let me know. We will be ordering a few extras with no team name and a few various sizes to cover for roster changes and some TBD spots.

Please follow the ARWS mandatory gear list, listed here. If we have any special items to add, we will do so within 4 weeks of the race and notify you.

You’ll “enjoy” 2 days of paddling this year. All teams other than 4-person co-ed are allowed to bring their own watercraft. All 4-person co-ed teams will be using Mad River 16 footers. We will transport any personal canoes from Casper to and from the course. Please send me an email if you are interested in bringing your own boat.

All race information is published and will be updated as necessary on the event web page at www.cowboytoughwy.com. This web site contains all official information related to the race before, during, and after. We also post information on Facebook, so be sure to follow us.

Please also send us your team bio (500 total words or less) along with team or individual pictures and/or links to your team Facebook page/website, so we can build out a comprehensive team bio page.

Mid-June we will be on the ground in Wyoming working through final logistics, setting parts of the course, coordinating with volunteers, meeting sponsors, and conducting a whole host of other activities in preparation for the race. Keep an eye on Facebook during this time. We may be posting some insider information…

The host hotel is the Ramkota in Casper (http://ramkotacasper.com). You can get a reduced rate at the hotel by mentioning code "TEAM" when you call to book your room (307-266-6000). The pre-race brief and post-race ceremony will take place at the hotel. This year we are holding the award ceremony at 5 pm on Sunday, July 17, so make sure your travel plans allow for you to stick around and enjoy good company and good food.

We continue to work with federal, state, and county agencies to secure necessary permits for the race. Permits are still being finalized for parts of the route, but we do not anticipate any major issues or changes at this time.

Don’t forget that the 2016 Cameco Cowboy Tough is a world qualifier for the Adventure Racing World Series, a national qualifier for USARA, and part of the NAARS series. And, in case you didn’t know, CCT and Rev3 Adventure are the hosts for the August 2017 Adventure Racing World Championship, so you already have a head start.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in Wyoming!

Thanks, Mark Harris, Race Director Rev3Adventure mark@rev3adventure.com
