The Shenandoah Epic Adventure Race is back for 2024

Adventure Enablers is thrilled to announce the opening of registration for the 2024 Shenandoah Epic 24-hour adventure race, now in its 12th year, set amidst the stunning backdrop of Bentonville, Virginia. The race is scheduled to kick off on April 20, 2024, and promises an exhilarating experience for participants.

Registration for this iconic event has already commenced for VIP participants on October 15, 2023, while the general registration is set to open on November 1, 2023.

The Shenandoah Epic is renowned as one of the longest-standing 24-hour adventure races on the East Coast and has consistently sold out, accommodating 300 participants over the past three years. Adventure racers can look forward to a full 24 hours of trekking, biking, paddling, and navigating their way through the picturesque Shenandoah Valley and the challenging Massanutten Mountain Range.

Mark Harris, the Race Director, announced an exciting and somewhat pioneering change for the 2024 event: the introduction of GPS devices to assist with navigation. While this innovation may raise mixed feelings within the adventure racing community, as some staunchly prefer traditional map and compass navigation, Harris explains his motivation, "I like to mix things up a bit, see how we can push the boundaries of an event, and I believe that introducing GPS devices is an experiment worth pursuing. It has the potential to enhance the sport, broaden navigational skill sets, and lead to more imaginative course designs and participant experiences."

Furthermore, the inclusion of GPS devices aims to address a significant barrier for newcomers to the sport: the fear of getting lost. Harris emphasized that by embracing this technology, they aim to make adventure racing more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.

Harris also noted, "We provide a detailed course outline a few months prior to the event to assist participants in their training and gear preparation. This year, the information will include specific guidance on the use of GPS devices."
