Live tracking on tap for 2023 Endless Mountains Expedition Race

Back for the second year, the Endless Mountains Expedition Race, a 5-day adventure race across the Pennsylvania Wilds hosted by Rootstock Racing, has once again recruited Enabled Tracking to implement live tracking for the event. The race starts on June 26 and runs through July 1.

“Like last year, we will be using a combination of our cellular trackers and Garmin inReach Mini trackers to track teams in real-time along the course,” said Mark Harris, lead timer and owner of Enabled Tracking. “While we have relatively good reception across the course, there are pockets where satellite communications are necessary to track the teams 100% of the time.”

Enabled Tracking’s platform is able to mash up data from various tracking sources and present them seamlessly on a single web page, allowing race directors to keep track of teams and support crew and friends and family to follow the progress of their loved ones throughout the race. “While tracking is a great way to engage the public, it is also a critical component for an event's safety plan,” said Harris. Enabled Tracking will be on site for the duration of the event to provide all the resources and logistical support for tracking. They will also be tracking the 30-hour Endless Mountains Lite race that runs at the same time as the expedition-length race.

Race Director Abby Perkness commented, “Enabled Tracking elevates our races at every level一from safety protocols, to in-race planning and logistics, to spectating and community building. As race directors, we love being able to track where teams are along the course. And for families, friends, and fans, the Enabled Tracking platform has allowed us to develop a robust media plan, focused on telling the story of the Endless Mountains Adventure Race for a global audience. We couldn't do it without live tracking.”

Per the event website, “Teams of 2-4 will have five days to complete a 325-mile/525-kilometer course, exploring the sprawling, majestic PA Wilds region, comprising more than two million acres of land spanning one national and eight state forests, twenty-nine state parks, fifty state game lands, and countless towns and villages nestled in the mountains and valleys of north-central PA.”
