Willowsford Tenderfoot AR Race-Day Information

Dear Adventure Racers,

Thank you for selecting the Willowsford Tenderfoot Adventure Race! We are very excited to be hosting this beginner event at the fabulous Willowsford development and are thrilled that you are going to be joining us this Sunday, October 12. Please find below race-day information, and please be sure to like us on Facebook because we post the most up to date information there.

If you are bringing friends and family and they would like to help in any way, we would love to put them to work. We are looking for people to help man checkpoints and run aid stations. Volunteers are very much appreciated by all. Rev3 Adventure will give all volunteers an event T-shirt and a $20 coupon toward any of our other races in 2015 or 2016. Volunteers can sign up here, and we will be forever in their debt.

If you have friends who are on the fence about participating, we are sure you can convince them to come on out. Online registration will be open until noon on Thursday, October 15. Race-day registration also will be available.

Race Day Schedule

7:30 am-8:30 am: Race packet pickup and transition set-up 8:45 am: Pre-race brief (mandatory for all team captains) 9:00 am: Race start 12:00 pm: All racers must be off the course 12:00 pm-1:00 pm: Post-race food and awards ceremony

Packet Pickup

Packet pickup starts at 7:30 am race morning at the trailhead at the end of Grassland Drive. At packet pickup you will receive T-shirts, sponsor giveaways, maps, rules of travel, and race numbers. During packet pickup the team captain must be present, all forms must be completed for every team member, and USARA membership fees must be paid (if applicable). If you do not have all the forms for all team members, we will not give you your race packet until we have them in hand. Please print the following 3 forms and complete them before you arrive to make packet pickup quick and easy:

Each person competing in the Tenderfoot AR will need to already have or purchase USARA membership. One-day memberships can be purchased for $8 and yearly membership can be purchased for $35 on the day of the race. Participants younger than age 16 do not need to purchase USARA membership.

Transition Area

The transition area is where you store (“stage”) all your mandatory and optional equipment. (Some you take with you and some you leave behind, depending on your race route and mode of transport.) Find the list of mandatory gear for the Tenderfoot here.

In brief, your chosen route will determine how you will collect different checkpoints and complete challenges. You will use your ePunch to check in at each checkpoint to prove that you have visited it. Additional instructions will also be provided during the pre-race brief.

Mandatory Gear

Mandatory gear will not be checked during check in. (See the race web page under “Gear” for the list.) Random checks on gear will be performed during the race. Penalty points will be assessed for any missing items. These items are not all inclusive of items you will need to complete the race. You will be out in the elements for 2-3 hours. Bring other equipment as appropriate to get through the event. Bring a change of clothes and make sure everyone on your team is dressed for the weather.

Biking Section

Road bikes are not permitted. Racers must use the same bike throughout the entire race. In the event of mechanical failures, replacement parts can be used but they must be provided by the team, other racers, or an event official. No outside assistance is allowed. Bikes will not be checked for mechanical worthiness, but we recommend your bike be in good working order.

Maps

Teams will be provided with maps to complete the course. All checkpoints will be pre-plotted. Additional maps can be used at the discretion of the racers.

Cancellation

The race will be held rain or shine. In the event of severe weather, the race start may be postponed or the course may be shortened.

USARA Adventure Racing Series

The Willowsford Tenderfoot adventure race is part of the USARA national ranking system.

Adventure racing is a growing sport and over the past few years different race series that tie together different events across the country and world have been formed. USARA is the longest-running series. To register your team to be part of the series you can do so on line at www.usara.com. The Tenderfoot AR will allow teams to earn points toward their ranking. Finishing teams will also earn points toward the ranking in the series.
